Piano cabaret with Stephan Eisel to mark Beethoven's farewell from Bonn
On 2 November 1792, Ludwig van Beethoven set off by stagecoach for Vienna to study with Haydn. He actually wanted to return to Bonn to become court conductor like his grandfather. But then the French occupied Bonn and this path was blocked. The composer remained attached to his hometown throughout his life, having lived and worked here for 22 years - longer than Mozart in Salzburg.
Beethoven celebrated his farewell party on 1 November in his favourite pub "Zehrgarten" on Bonn's market square. To mark the anniversary, Stephan Eisel's finger exercises on 88 keys and with many farewell songs ranging from folk and pop to jazz and rock.
Stephan Eisel studied political science and musicology, was a speechwriter and deputy head of the chancellor's office for Helmut Kohl, a member of the Bundestag in Bonn and is chairman of "Citizens for Beethoven"
